Well, if that last post didn't stop you from coming back, welcome!

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but here's some information that might help everyone understand why we don't know anything and why we don't receive updates.

Again, I'm only able to speak for what *my* agency does...when they send our completed dossier to China it does not go alone. Each month they send at least one group of 6-8 completed dossiers with each dossier belonging to a set of prospective adoptive parents. In most cases these 6-8 families remain in the same group and will receive their babies together. That is one agency...in one city...in one state...in one country. Multiply that by all of the other agencies ALL OVER THE WORLD sending completed dossiers to the same place in China. When the dossiers are received all of the information from each is put into the computer and dated. This is how you receive your Log In Date, or LID. Then, basically, your dossier gets filed while they work on matching all of those other prospective parents with their beautiful Chinese child whose LID's are LONG before your own. So, you see, it's kind of like asking somebody if they've heard anything about their tax refund. The IRS isn't going to call you every couple of weeks and say, "I've gone through all of the returns that I received in January. Yours didn't get here until March. It's sitting under a pile of February returns on my desk."

Other factors that you simply can't put a time limit on fall within the group you were placed in. Each person asked for a certain age/sex child. If there are 7 people in the group then CCAA has to wait until they get to your LID batch, and find an orphanage that has 7 children who match or come close to all 7 of those requests.

The time until referral has indeed slowed. We were told to expect a six month wait. It does not look like that will be met. Those who just received their LID's were told to expect an eight month wait. We were told to expect a twelve month wait for Hope and it was eight. If we have to wait eight months for Claire, or even longer, we will. Again, God knows what He is doing! He knows when Claire will be ready and it could be tomorrow! I don't really think He's on the clock!

Recently, there are many speculations on the waiting time period for adoption process for inter-country adoption coming to China to adopt children. The following will help clarify such concerns:

CCAA highly emphasizes on efficiency, effectiveness and quality, we have put unremitting effort to achieve this. But the length of processing time after adoptive family apply for their application is correlated with the number of inter-country adopting families and the number with the adopting children waiting to be adopted. If the number of adoptive families is higher than the number of children to be adopted, the waiting period will be extended, on the other hand, if the number of children waiting for adoption out numbers the number of adoptive families, then the waiting period will be shortened. Therefore, the waiting period for adoptive families will vary according to this and not due to inefficiency or other controlling factors.

This happens frequently when I ask this person a question but all is forgiven because this person is busier most days than I believe God Himself is. I forgot however that I have a secret weapon against this person. My secret weapon always seems to get an answer and doesn't give up until she does. Greetings from Hageman Healthcare and Feline Pharmacy. Life does tend to get in the way whenever I try to sit down and type an update for y'all.

A month or so ago on one of my many stops to our local pharmacy I made this comment to our pharmacist, "I need just ONE more pill, liquid, or cream to administer every day and then I will officially be getting nothing done." I will NEVER make that statement again. SEVERAL pills, liquids, and creams later I have a daily calendar I have to look at to see who gets what and when! LOL Again, nothing is truly serious and soon a couple members of Hageman Healthcare will be rotating out of several of their meds. We are all just trying to smile and keep positive attitudes while we work through the junk! Thanks to everyone who has prayed and asked about our Horatio. For those of you who don't know about our mystery miracle kitty, he has a seizure disorder of unknown cause. He has WONDERFUL doctors who have him on great drugs that keep things settled down or most times, dare I whisper...normal! He's been having some problems with dosages and when we play with dosages the seizures return. He's been seizure free for several days and things seem to be returning to blessed normal.

How's about an update on Hope's passport? After waiting the full six weeks and a few days longer, Garry called the terrific ladies at our local title bureau and asked them for some help. Apparently we've been *the* topic of conversation for those full six weeks and a few days. The woman who answered the phone transferred him to the lady who had helped us fill out the papers. She first told him not to worry and then told him that she had thought about calling us and asking us if we had received Hope's passport but didn't want to intrude. Do you know where passport applications are sent to? New Orleans. Do you know when Hope's was sent? The week of Hurricane Katrina. Garry was given a toll free number to call to check on the status of her passport. ALL of her important papers made it safely OUT of New Orleans and were sent to Charleston, where at the time of the phone call her passport was being worked on. The woman he spoke to assured him that they were in possession of all of her documents and that they would all be returned with the new passport. She was correct. We have everything back in our hot little hands and I've thanked God repeatedly. This whole thing has served to put things into some form of perspective for me too. You know, there are people in New Orleans who have lost EVERYTHING and I'm worried about some silly papers that we have copies of and yes, it would be a huge hassle to file for new ones, but we would eventually get them. Life's too short...no more worrying over paperwork.

Still no official LID to report. We've asked the only two people we know of to ask. One didn't know and the other ignored the question! LOL Garry did speak to Chris at the agency last week and she said things are tracking normally and that we should expect our first pictures of Claire in February! YAY!

First of all many, MANY thanks to all of those who took the time to share their answers to the "less than sensitive" questions or comments from my last post. All of them are greatly appreciated! At one point there was a website that offered responses to those comments...I had a link to it at Prayer, Praise & Peace...way back when! I'm going to have to look it up and share it with you!

We have yet to be notified of our LID. We were told it would probably be up to two months before the Chinese notified us. It will be two months on October 9th. Stay tuned...

We have yet to receive Hope's passport and all of her important documents that had to be sent away in order to get her passport. The check was not in the last bunch of cancelled checks that came back yesterday. We were told it would take "a full six weeks". Looking at the calendar I guess they still have one more day left.

We received the list of the other families we will be traveling with and have heard from all of them. It is going to be another large group. There will be 14 parents/prospective parents and everyone with children is bringing all or most of them. At last count I believe there are 8 children with 6 of them under the age of 4. Our last group also had some grandparents along as well so we shall see.

I haven't been posting anything because, well, there's been nothing to post! ") We're dealing with several issues right now...those of you who know us well know that when "issues" come up we tend to close ourselves off from the outside world until things are resolved. NONE of these issues are deadly or of imminent importance to anyone other than our little family. I do want to thank everyone who understands that we are not angry, upset, or anything else. We just don't have anything left for anyone else right now. We also appreciate all prayers that are offered! I will share that one, two actually of the issues is health related...again, nothing deadly...just a giant nuisance. Three members of our little troupe of five are now affected and we're all being treated. I finally called and made an appointment for something else that has been bothering me for a month or two. Hopefully it will be just another nuisance as well. Again, all prayers and good thoughts are appreciated! ")

There is one "issue" that is simply making me crazy. Some days I don't think about it at all and other days it is a constant battle to think of anything BUT it. I have discussed it with my friend Linda ad nauseum and WON'T discuss it any further...with anyone! ") I am not giving it any more energy. Linda and I have actually gotten a few giggles out of it simply by the fact that I say I've given it to God but then I end up taking it back. I found this poem today that I had pulled out of a book called "A Woman's Journey Toward Holiness" several years ago. There is no author credited on the page so if anyone knows who wrote it I would love to know. Enjoy the poem...and enjoy your weekend!

For those, strangers or not, who feel the need to ask us questions or offer comments of a deeply personal nature...it is from these encounters that we are learning GRACE!

1. "Don't you want to have 'one of your own'?" and "Aren't you pregnant...well you look like you are!" I combine these because they came from the same person. Hope is our own...we aren't babysitting or just marking time...she is our very own daughter sent from God Himself. The pregnant comment bothered me immensely...but then I had someone tell me this last week that I looked too thin so I guess it's all in one's perception.
2. "What mix is she?" Thankfully this one was not said to me because I would've said, "German Shepherd and Golden Retriever."
3. "She's just a big toy." I have no smart remark for this one...I'm still working on it.
4. "You're doing such a noble thing saving these children." We are not saving them, they are saving us. Yes, Hope was living in a children's welfare institute. We had a chance to visit this wonderful place and meet the incredible staff members. If she couldn't be with her birth mother, and she couldn't be with me, THAT is exactly where I'd want her to be. I believe it was our neighbor, Theresa, who also has a beautiful daughter of China, who said it best. She said, "Some of us are lucky enough to have our families close-by. However, some of us need to travel a little farther to complete the family God has chosen for us." That's what we are doing dear friends...we are not saving Hope or Claire...they are saving us from a lifetime without their smiles, laughter, tears, and the sound of their little voices saying, "Mama! Daddy!"
5. "How do you know there's not something wrong with her?" My response, "How would we know that there wasn't something wrong with any biological child we might have?"
6. "When are you going to get Claire?" This one, perhaps is the one that strangely bothers me the most. We don't know. There is no way of knowing. We knew 5-6 weeks before we traveled for Hope I can only imagine it will be the same with Claire. We were told we would wait 12 months for a referral with Hope and it was 8. We've been told we will wait 6 months for a referral with Claire. It could be 4...it could be 6...it could be 8...it could me 12 or more. It will be when God knows Claire is ready and not before...hey! I like that answer! Our precious friend Holly said it very well this morning at church when she said, "It must be like being pregnant and being way past your due date." Exactly...we don't know...we appreciate your interest and I know it sounds absolutely ridiculous, but we don't know.
7. Right after that one comes, "Well what's your best guess?" Please see response for previous question.

For the online message boards that are brimming with information. These are truly a double edged sword. I've joined a half a dozen or so all having to do with adopting from China. Quite often I find wonderful tips, information, sources...you name it for just about anything having to do with China, adoption, post adoption issues etc. I recently joined an August DTC group. As you remember we are August 9th DTC (documents to China). Many, many people in the group have started posting their LID's (log in dates). In some ways it is very funny and in just as many ways sad...China has no more rhyme or reason of doing things than does the U.S. government where this process is concerned. I have no idea what our LID is yet as we haven't been notified. We were told it would be somewhere from 10-14 days after our documents were received in China. I am seeing people on this board with DTC dates within 1-2 days on either side of ours who have received their official LID's. Some are 10-14 days after their DTC; some are 3-4 weeks after their DTC; one person's LID was the DAY AFTER her DTC. I'm going to stop reading these boards for awhile, let God do what He does best, and enjoy my life with my family!

All righty folks...here's your update!

Wednesday, July 6th was indeed our road trip day. Our appointment with the attorney to have the documents notarized was at 10. We were late. You try rushing a two year old who tells you she has to "go potty"! I sat in the reception area and chatted with Doris (the wife of Fred, the attorney, and also his secretary) while Garry and Hope worked with Fred in the back conference room. The day before I had checked and double checked everything and even printed the "official notarization" words on the backs of the papers before we got there to save time. It must have worked because we were on the road for our two hour journey to Columbus shortly after 11:00. We stopped around noon for some lunch and then piled back into the car. Hope did REALLY well until we got to the actual exit we needed in Columbus where she proclaimed loudly and with great emotion, "ALL DONE RIDING IN CAR!!!"

She was, understandably, an imp during the whole certification process. She'd been quiet and sitting in her carseat for a looooong time. No one really seemed to care save for her parents. While I walked the short hallway with her Garry met another prospective adoptive parent waiting to have his stack of papers certified...also for China. Small world folks...small world. We were there for maybe all of 20 minutes and then back in the car towards home. ATTENTION LINDA!!! I saw a Tim Horton's in Columbus!

Hope got VERY cranky on the way home and finally conked out for the final 50 minutes or so of the return trip. Her mother conked out shortly after she did.

Garry tried calling Chris at the agency a couple of times from the road to see if she was going to be there so we could drop off our papers. He either got her voice mail or someone telling him she was on a break. I had a baaaaad feeling...

Once home I sat down at the copier and copied my brains out. I made one copy of each of our close to 30 documents. Remember, we needed two originals of everything so technically I was only making around 15 copies. However, that included the front of the document, the back that now contained the notary stamp, AND the certification sheet of paper stapled to each one by the Secretary Of State's office. All of those copies need to travel to China with us in case they are needed.

I checked to make sure all of our originals were still there and then we were off to the agency in Strongsville to drop it all off. Hope wasn't happy. I still had a bad feeling.

Once we got there I told Garry he could go in by himself...I knew I couldn't deal with the not so kind individual (NSKI) if she was there. He said that if Chris was there he would wave us in. ") Off he went with our folder full of papers which I had labeled with Chris' full name in huge, black letters. He was gone for a verrrrry long time. My bad feeling remained and Hope wasn't getting any happier. When he returned to the car, he wasn't very happy either. Since it was after 5 Chris had left for the day and the NSKI appeared to take the folder. Everything was complete, had been checked first by her, then by Chris, then by Chris again, then notarized and certified. Want to know what she did? She took the folder clearly labeled with Chris' name, sat down, and WENT THROUGH EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF PAPERWORK AGAIN. Garry told her that it had already been checked and OK'd by Chris. She just smiled blankly at him and continued going through everything. Garry had left several spaces blank on the financial statement where the answer was zero. Chris said this was perfectly acceptable. Chris is the one who has final say on all the China paperwork. The NSKI made him put zeros in the blanks before she would let him leave. She then dumped out the envelope of a dozen pictures that are needed to complete the dossier and went through each and every one of them. Once she was satisfied she gave her usual, "Well as always, the final decision is up to Chris." We were ALL mad. Once again, if she KNOWS this, why is she putting us, and I'm sure other clients through her ridiculous scrutiny? ::grrrr::

On the drive home we all did some deep breathing and thanked God that we were done and would never have to deal with her again. Oh...sometimes we can be so naive!

I would like to remind you that this person has called here incessantly since we started the process in late December. Garry told her gently at that time that we do not need to be called. When we have a question, we call Chris. We do not need reminders...we have our own time table...we've been through this before...you get the idea. He also told her that we weren't officially starting the process until March 2005. She said she wouldn't call until March. She lied. Seriously, and without exaggeration, she has called here more times than the GRAND TOTAL number of calls that we made to the agency AND that the agency made to us during Hope's adoption. We spoke to Chris about it. She talked to this person...she still calls. Chris then put a note in our folder that she was not to call us. She still calls. Garry told her point blank after the whole "your guardians are too old" call that she is NOT to call us again. Any contact with the agency will be made through Chris. She still calls.

Her last call came after we received our contract. Chris sent our dossier off to the consulate to be translated into Chinese the day after we dropped it off. On Friday, June 22nd, we received our contract. It basically says that nothing is the agency's fault if something goes wrong etc. Pretty standard stuff. It also includes a page showing what you have already paid and what is owed. Besides initialing each and every page and signing and dating the last page, there were five more pieces of paperwork for us to complete.

1. Release And Authorization---Again, standard release saying they can use our pictures, names, whatever and not pay us or be sued by us.

2. Personal Contact Form---This is in case of emergency while we are in China. They want the name, address and phone number of someone in the U.S.

3. Post Placement Affidavit---This states our intent to use our agency for our post placement and that we will fully comply with the requirements for post placement as outlined by the country of adoption. This one also needs to be notarized.

4. Information Summary---Yes my friends, the exact same form I've filled out for both the home study and the dossier...once again with feeling for the contract.

5. CIS Fingerprint Reminder---The CIS now requires prospective parents to be re-fingerprinted after 15 months. If we don't receive our referral up to three months before they expire we need to call the CIS and make an appointment to be re-fingerprinted. This is a BIG deal. Why? If we are in China and ready to bring Claire home and they find out our fingerprints have expired, we go home without her. This paper basically says we are aware of the policy and we will take care of it should the need arise. Last time...it did. We had to be re-fingerprinted and guess when we got our approval notice? Yep, it was about two weeks AFTER we returned home with Hope. Classic...simply classic.

As I said, we received all of this on Friday the 22nd. On Monday the 25th, guess who called again? Yep. She wanted to know where our contract was because they need it back along with a check. How do you deal with someone like that? Neither one of us wanted to so we didn't. I let the contract sit until Friday the 29th. I filled out everything...the next day we got the one form notarized at the title bureau here in town...Garry sat down on Sunday night and signed and initialed everything...he turned it all into the agency along with the check on Monday, August 1st.

It has taken me this long to be able to type this because I get so angry just thinking about the whole situation! I just didn't feel there was any way I would be able to communicate our frustration using polite language! ")

Garry's mantra is "Keep your eyes on the prize." He is such a smart man. One of my favorite speakers is Joyce Meyer. Recently her message was, you are going to encounter a lot of people who drive you crazy. God has put them into your life for a reason. You had better learn to deal with them now because if you don't, if you run away from them, He's just going to put two more of them right in front of you! I don't want ANY more of her anywhere near me so I'm going to start dealing! ")

Now, with that out and done with, here's some wonderful news! Chris (I love you Chris!) called me on Monday afternoon this week to tell me that our dossier was being picked up at 7:30 that evening and was being sent to Beijing! YAY!!!! So, we are August 2005 DTC (documents to China). In the past, this was when the OFFICIAL wait began. However, now it is your LID (log in date). When our dossier arrives at the CCAA (China Center of Adoption Affairs) someone will log all of our information into their computers. THAT is when the official wait begins. Chris said that is usually 10-14 days after the dossier is sent to China. Again, the official wait is being broadcasted as six months so we shall see!
