ABC Wednesday---F Is For Folk Art

ABC Wednesday is hosted by Mrs. Nesbitt's Place.

Many, MANY thanks for the kind comments and emails that have filtered in over the last week concerning our visit from The Influenza Fairy. Garry went back to work on Monday and this is the first day I've been without an afternoon nap in a week! ;) Modern medicine can be a WONDERFUL thing! Your kindness is much appreciated!

As for my entry this week...well...it is going to be short and sweet. I may not be catching a nap today but I still need to put my feet up a bit while the girls are resting. I toyed with the idea of my "F" post being "Flu"...but seriously? Any pictures I could post with THAT would be...well...less than appetizing I'm sure!

I have a thing for Folk Art. I have spent countless hundreds of hours wandering through the museums at Colonial Williamsburg...antique shops...art fairs...and anywhere else I can find something that catches my eye. We have many pieces in our home...some on display...some waiting to be framed...some still packed away.

Today I am focusing on the work of one artist: Maria Pfropper from Dryden, Michigan. Maria is INCREDIBLY talented and I fear that my pictures fail miserably at showing you this. Google her sometime and you will see many truer representations of her gorgeous paintings. The extraordinary thing about her is the fact that her husband creates all the frames for her pieces and they are EQUALLY as impressive as the artwork they are framing. Above is our beloved first piece we purchased from her at a local art fair many years ago. It hangs in my foyer year round even though it depicts a Christmas scene. Below is a picture of how the table beneath it mirrors the antique feather tree in the piece during the Christmas season.

This was our second purchase. We bought this unframed 8 x 10 and put it inside the closet in Hope's nursery while we were waiting for her referral. It was just last year we finally found the perfect frame for it at Target...on clearance!

Our third piece hangs in our kitchen. The primitive still life will be moving to our dining room once it has received its Williamsburg makeover.

This is the last piece we purchased. At the time she had only completed the original. I fell in love at first sight so Garry ordered one for us. We have one of the first prints...and again...the frame is equally as special. I WISH the photo was clearer! Each Santa ornament is different and overflowing with his own personality and detail.

We haven't seen Maria since Claire has been home. The last time we were at one of her shows she was missing and her husband was running the booth. I asked him if they ever considered selling online. He said they were thinking about it! I keep checking...

Until next time...

P.S. Hey Carolina!!!! JOEPIE DE POEPIE!!!! Well...yesterday anyway...but hey! I'll TAKE it!

I LOVE the Santa in the sleigh one! It looks whimsical and adorable! I couldn't click on it for a larger one, though :(

And I meant to say, I'm glad you're feeling so much better! The flu is such a drag.. I'm glad you chose a happier F post :)

As I'm just getting over the Foul Flu myself (I caught it on a cruise!) Flu would have made an apt entry. But Folk Art is MUCH nicer!

Thanks everybody!

pictureeachday...I don't know why my picture links don't work. If I only post one, it works, but there's something goofy in the code when I post more than one that the links won't work. I'll figure it out someday!

Love the art you have from Maria Pfropper.
We just found out that she did a painting of our home and has it for sale! I am excited to see it in person!

Smiles, Dolly
